Client. Specsavers X Fred Hollows
Title. Share the Vision
94% of vision loss in First Nations adults is preventable or treatable. Specsavers wanted to address this issue head on by raising money for the Fred Hollows Foundation.
Specsavers partnered with contemporary First Nations artist, Helen Dale Samson who shared a painting depicting her unique vision of the land she grew up on.
Collider Studio, engaged by AJF, worked to conceptualise and produce a film piece for Specsavers that brought to life the magic of Helen’s paintings into the real world. With Helen’s support and consultation we were able to create an animation approach that communicated an imaginative interpretation of her Jukurrpa (Dreaming).
We took a number of highly detailed photo scans of a variety of natural features such as trees, rocks and anthills which allowed us to accurately track and match the CG effect into the filmed plates with considerable accuracy. We were then able to flow Helen’s artwork over the detailed relief and use the colours of her art to inform the floral forms. The flower-like blooming animation was inspired by the Western Australian Mulla Mulla flower, also used extensively in Helen’s body of work.
Collider Studio collaborated with Indigenous Perth-based filmmaker Karla Hart to co-direct the project on-country around the town of Newman, Western Australia. Karla worked closely with Helen to document her around a range of interesting locations near her studio.
